「厄災」は続く。いまや街は機能しておらず、人々はいつか来るという電車をあてにして、駅前に集まっている。山間でキャンプ場を経営している「ぼく」のもとには避難してきた仲間たちが集まりはじめる。畑を作り、水を汲み、なんとか皆で生き延びようとするが、崩壊する世界は確実に日常を蝕んでいく。「教授」と呼ばれた男のこと。「風船病」のこと。
「山道を抜けた先にはニジマスが泳ぐきれいな小川があり、そこには木の橋がかけてあるだろう。そこには豊かな森がある。畑だってある。
ぼくらはそこに住んでいる」
終末の予感をはらんだ四つの連作のうち、三番目の物語。
The “disaster” continues. The city is no longer functioning, and people are gathering in front of the station, hoping for a train to arrive someday. ``I'' run a campsite in the mountains, and friends who have evacuated to it begin to gather around me. They all try to survive by planting fields and drawing water, but the collapsing world is steadily eroding their daily lives. About the man called "Professor". About "balloon disease".
``At the end of the mountain path, there will be a beautiful stream where rainbow trout swim, and there will be a wooden bridge over it.There will be a rich forest.There will also be fields.
We live there.”
The third story out of a series of four that has a premonition of the end.

世界は静かに変化しつつある。大停電の日を境に、瑞穂と隆之はなんとか生活を立て直そうとするが、日常は確実に崩れつつある。優しく、そして静謐に。

彼方』
元弘元年（一三三一年）、紀伊と駿河とで山崩れを伴う大きな地震が立て続けに起こり、都もまたひどい疫災に見舞われた。都の混乱など何も知らない平二郎は川のはずれで逃げてきた女を見つける。それが平二郎の運命を大きく変えることになる。中世日本の山を舞台に、見えない彼方に想いを馳せる人の営みの意味を描く。
